Sheet Molding Compound (SMC)

A fiberglass reinforced thermosetting compound in sheet form that cures under heat and pressure by compression or injection molding to an infusible solid state. SMC is a combination of chopped glass strands & filled polyester resin in the form of a sheet that is normally stored in rolls and can be molded into complex shapes with very little scrap. SMC is used primarily in compression molding of larger parts.
